Sometimes living in a small town can be really boring. You know everyone, you've done everything there is to do and it feels like you're never going to get outta there. That's exactly how Toby Wilson feels living in Antler, Texas. But the summer of '71 is about to change Toby's whole outlook on life.

When Zachary Beaver Came to Town follows Toby Wilson as he deals with love, loss and adventure during his 13th summer. Toby and his best friend Cal start their summer off by lining up in a parking lot, waiting to see the fattest boy in the world. 643-pound Zachary Beaver spends his life traveling from small town to small town letting people traipse through the trailer to stare at him for money. The people in Antler, Texas are eager for some excitement in their sleepy little town but are they ready for the excitement that Zachary Beaver is going to bring? You'll have to read it to find out!

If you're looking for a book with a bit of substance but is still something you can read quickly while basking in the sun at the beach, then When Zachary Beaver Came to Town is the book for you. This book was the winner of a National Book Award for good reason - it's well written and leaves you with a smile on your face when you're done.
