How to Clean Up Your Make-Up

Oct 05, 2016

Okay, so spring has finally sprung and summer is about to happen. Bet your parents had you doing all that dreaded "spring cleaning" - which probably resulted in you having to spend a perfectly good Saturday cleaning your room. But there is another type of spring cleaning you should have done too - cleaning out your make-up case. It's time to replace that five month-old mascara and two year-old lip gloss with some cool new colors, scents and products. Not just cuz dark lip liner and frosted lipstick is soooo 1999, but because those old products become an amusement park for bacteria and general ickiness.

The Eyes Have it

Your eyes are the windows to your soul - so they say - so why not dress 'em up a bit? First tip: if your mascara is more than three months old - toss it. Not only is it probably thick and clumpy, but it's slowly building it's own DNA. And although pink is a color that you'll see on a lot of lids this spring, pink-eye doesn't count as a fashion statement. A great mascara to try is Maybelline Great Lash Mascara. It's been around forever and lots of make-up artists still swear by it. Oh yeah, and it won't bust your bank - it's one of the cheapest ones out there.

Now if you're looking for something that'll really draw attention to your peepers - try Cover Girl's Eyeslicks Gel Eyecolor. This stuff comes in a ton of warm and cool colors that'll bring out any eye color. this stuff is in stick form, like a pencil, so it's way-easy to apply.

Summer Glow

Looking for that healthy summer glow right now? Well, if you're scared of blush like I am, but love that rosey-cheeked glow, here's something a little different. It's called Cheek Stain and it's made by Tarte Cosmetics. Cheek Stain comes in a tube and is a gel that you rub into your cheeks - just be sure to blend away the edges. It'll last all day - even through gym class - and comes in three wicked colors: Tickled Peach, Flush and Sunkissed.

Summer Scent

Nothing says spring or summer like a good, clean, scent. One of the best ones out there is Ralph. Okay, bad name - but great scent. Ralph, by Ralph Lauren, is light, yet kinda musky. It's definitely guaranteed to get your crush's attention. The best place to dab your fave scent is on pulse points like your wrists, your neck or even the inside of your elbows. Just remember - a little dab will do ya.
