The Goods on Glitter

Dec 27, 2006

They used to say, "All that glitters is not gold." But the saying could be, "All that glitters is cool." Lately it seems that if there isn't at least one rhinestone item in your wardrobe, you might as well call yourself a geek.

The lastest trend is towards sparkly and rhinestoned T-shirts and accessories. It started simple enough - a few Ts with glittery words like Rockstar or Brat. Your fave celebs were diggin' the trend - these glittery Ts have shown up on everyone from Britney to JC Chasez.

Nowadays the trend to glitter like the stars (both celebrity and the ones in the sky) has extended to include all kinds of accessories. You can get rhinestone bracelets in just about any color, rhinestone hair clips and rhinestone sunglasses. And the T-shirts are more than just words now - they're funky patterns and psychedelic designs.

If you see a rhinestone T on someone but you can't find it in any store - chances are they made it. Back in the 70s someone invented something called a Bedazzler. It's this little gizmo that allows you to be-dazzle your own clothes with rhinestones and glittery gems. It's making a big comeback now. If you wanna ride the rhinestone craze but want to be more original, check out your local craft store and pick up a bedazzler.
