Sep 11, 2008

Guitar Heroes Unite! Fans of this series are going to be blown clear off the stage when Guitar Hero World Tour releases later in fall 2008. We had the privilege of attending the press event hosted by Activision and Neversoft in [kwlink]L.A.[/kwlink] for some hands on quality time for fret board magic and [kwlink]drum kit[/kwlink] chaos. Any doubts we had as to whether Guitar Hero could steal any thunder from Rock Band have been washed down the storm drains – check out this news preview for the full deets fearless fingerboard fans.

Features

Sing along on a massive set list of some of the best rock songs of the last 40 years. Vocals haven't changed much but have undergone a bit of refinement. [kwlink]Guitars[/kwlink] as a mainstay of the game require unbelievably wizardry (and lots of practice?!) at higher levels, with a new slide note feature that offers just that much more realism and challenge to wannabe fretboard masters. A notable addition this year is open notes, so aside from strumming on regular notes you've now got to keep time with open notes as well. This goes for bass guitar too, and this time the bassist doesn't get off easy as the bass lines on higher difficulties are enough to challenge [kwlink]Flea[/kwlink] himself. Watch for the eight player online Battle of Bands mode as entire virtual bands face off against each other in a head to head challenge for high score and bragging rights (believe us, an entire band playing on expert is something to behold!). Something we feel needs more coverage though now is definitely the drum kit.

More Pics? Deal!

Drums

With glowing endorsements from rockers like Chad Smith, drummer for the [kwlink]Red Hot Chili Peppers[/kwlink], and Stewart Copeland from [kwlink]The Police[/kwlink], and [kwlink]Travis Barker[/kwlink] of both +44 and Blink 182 this velocity-sensitive virtual drum kit ain’t no slouch on the couch. We watched in awe as people who very well could have been studio drummers played on the kit like they should have been rotating in a giant steel cage on stage. (If the reference is over your head, check out old skool concert footage of Tommy Lee from Motley Crue). If you’ve ever seen Rock Band drums played well on expert difficulty you’ll have an idea what we’re getting at.

Music Studio

Prepare to be rocked! As if this game could get any better - it has! How about the ability to compose your own song, instrument by instrument; then record it track by track; and then mix it all together into one master single!? Why stop there?! What more could you ask for?! Let us tell you! Take your own custom single, play it in single or multiplayer and even upload it onto online leaderboards and share it with everyone! Imagine! Your single, played across the country or the world for that matter by fans everywhere! The Recording Studio toolset has a massive selection of effects and beats from multiple instruments. Record a bass groove, then go back and lay down your drum beats and guitar riffs. The musical world is yours with this new features that will undoubtedly have hardcore fans and aspiring virtual composers rocking out for a long, long time.
