Teams from different regions of the world have gathered for the ultimate baseball showdown. How well does the sporting event translate into a DS game?

The ol' ball game gets a bit more cuter with Little League World Series Baseball 2009. This game is a step above the 2008 edition of the game, with better graphics, animation, and gameplay controls.

Little League, Big Game

The game comes with an Exhibition mode for quick play games and a Tournament mode where you can create and customize your own team for worldwide competition. There are also skill challenges and training mode. Playing through the different modes will earn you trophies and special cards that you can use during the game to give your team an edge.

The Right Touch

Almost everything is handled by the stylus and touch screen. This is where Little League 2009 beats the 2008 version as all the annoying controls have been replaced by ones that make sense and work well. To bat, you draw a line from where the ball will cross homeplate towards the direction you want the ball to go. Tap the screen to bunt and to also command base runners to advance or turn back.

Pitching is done by selecting your pitch and tracing a line accurately and quickly. The control pad moves your fielders and your stylus controls where they throw. As well, every skill shares a talent meter that charges up as you play through a game. You can tap the talent meter to do various things such as power up your batting or getting your pitcher to throw a super fastball.

Scoring Runs

This game is great! Not just for baseball fans, but for fans of sports games in general. There are plenty to do and many challenging teams to beat. The controls are excellent and the game does very well to play out like a real baseball game. Any shortcomings it has can be excused by its very cheap pricetag. Well recommended.
