The Lightning Thief Rating: 5

Based on a novel by Rick Riordan

Just in time for the 2010 Olympics, the first book in Rick Riordan’s bestselling series Percy Jackson and the Olympians hits the big screen. Kidzworld reviews The Lightning Thief starring Logan Lerman.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief Brief is now available on Blu-ray and DVD!!

The Secret is Out

Percy Jackson doesn’t think of himself as special. He has ADHD and dyslexia. His dad left when he was a baby, and his mom’s boyfriend is the ultimate creep. But one day, his whole life changes. His substitute teacher transforms before his very eyes from a human to a flying monster! The secret is out. Percy Jackson is definitely special. And he’s in grave danger!

Demi-God

Percy is a demi-god (part human, part Greek god). And his father is Poseidon, god of the Sea. His best friend and “protector” is actually part goat. And to top off the weirdness, his uncle Zeus thinks Percy stole his lightning bolt! Percy is rushed to a demi-god camp where he can train for battle in protection. But before he arrives, Hades kidnaps his mother and brings her to the underworld. Now Percy’s main goal is to get her back!

The Pearls

With the help of his two demi-god friends, Percy sets out on a cross-country journey in search of the three pearls that will help them escape from Hell once they’ve rescued Percy’s mother. But the trip is filled with dangers, from a five-headed dragon to the deadly eyes of Medusa.

The Bottom Line

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is a wonderful adaptation of Rick Riordan’s bestselling book. This film has the same amazing graphics as Harry Potter (the films do have the same director after all!), but with a lot more intensity! Logan Lerman, who plays Percy Jackson, will definitely become the next teenage heartthrob!

Not to mention the right to grow old and ugly and impotent; the right to have ######## and cancer, the right to have too little to eat; the right to be lousy; the right to live in constant apprehension of what may happen tomorrow; the right to catch typhoid; the right to be tortured by unspeakable pains of every kind.' There was a long silence.I claim them all,' said the Savage at last.Mustapha Mond shrugged his shoulders. 'You're welcome,' he said.”  I freaking LOVE Brave New World! It's one of the best books I've ever read, and that conversation between the Controller and John is my favorite part  [s:sm3/1jw1]
