American Idol Recap :: Thursday February 25
got their first chance to compare the Top 12 Girls and the Top 12 Guys. Here’s the rundown on which contestants rocked the mic and which singers left us praying for ear plugs.
Highlights From The Top 12 Girls
Ashley Rodriguez needed to bring something more to her dull performance of Happy by Leona Lewis.
Crystal Bowersox’s song choice of Hand in My Pocket by Alanis Morrissette didn’t do anything to erase her reputation as a glorified coffeehouse singer, but the judges still sense potential. Simon thinks she should cover an artist outside of her comfort zone. Crystal liked his David Bowie suggestion.
Siobhan Magnus showed her range by selecting Wicked Game by Chris Isaac. She can get a bit throaty, but the judges, especially Randy, liked her unique sound.
Janell Wheeler tackled What About Love by Heart, but her voice fell flat. Ellen enjoyed her performance, but the rest of America wasn’t convinced. Janell won’t be returning next week.
Highlights From The Top 12 Guys
Tyler Grady seemed stuck in the ‘70s with his stiff performance of American Woman. He needed more movement on stage and the judges said he needed to work on dropping the gimmicks.
Michael Lynche charmed the judges with his high-energy rendition of This Love by Maroon 5. His performance was one of the night’s best.
Joe Munoz didn’t bring a lot of star quality to his performance of You And Me Both by Jason Mraz, but it was still a surprise to see him get the boot while Tim Urban, who butchered his performance of Apologize by OneRepublic got to stay.
Janell Wheeler and Ashley Rodriguez didn’t receive enough votes to continue and Tyler Grady and Joe Munoz were sent packing. Next week we’re down to the Top 20!
