Glee Recap: Episode 22, "Journey"

Jun 07, 2010

Regionals are finally here! Will New Directions triumph or will their performance fall flat? Find out how it all goes down in this week’s Glee recap of episode 22: “Journey!”on June 8th,2010

New Directions was pumped about the upcoming Midwest regionals competition until they heard that one of the celebrity judges would be Sue Sylvester. With Sue on the panel, there’s no way New Directions can win.

The Final Journey

But Mr. Schue scolds the club—“Haven’t I taught you guys anything?” Glee club isn’t about winning—it’s about the journey. With that in mind, Mr. Schue announces the club will be performing a medley of Journey songs.

Rockin’ Regionals

Just before their entrance onstage, Finn tells Rachel he loves her. His admission seems to charge their duet of “Faithfully” and the rest of the club brings the emotion too. They rocked the Journey medley that included “Any Way You Want It,” “Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezing” and, of course, “Don’t Stop Believin’.” The club left the stage energized and confident in their performance. Then Vocal Adrenaline took the stage…

Beth Is Born

As Vocal Adrenaline performs a solid rendition of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” Quinn gets rushed to the hospital to have her baby. Puck still wants to call her Beth, but both decide they’re not ready to become parents and keep with their plan to give her up for adoption. While they’re reflecting on their relationship, Vocal Adrenaline coach Shelby Corcoran (and Rachel’s birth mother) shows up at the hospital to see the newborn baby. Later on, Shelby adopts the baby and keeps the name Beth.

Celebrity Judges

Meanwhile, Sue and the other celebrity judges—Olivia Newton-John and Josh Groban—are deciding the fate of regionals. The other celebrity judges don’t think Sue is famous enough to judge with them. They tell her she actually has a lot in common with her school’s misfit glee club.

The Results

New Directions needs to win regionals, otherwise they’ll lose their funding and glee club will be finished. Despite a powerful performance, New Directions loses out to Vocal Adrenaline. Worse still, they don’t even place! After the hard loss, New Directions regroups. To show Mr. Schue just how much his teaching has meant to them, the glee club gives him a private performance of “To Sir With Love.” But the performance isn’t that private after all—Sue sneaks in the back and watches.

Now What?

With their funding cut, New Directions is no more. Or is it? After being moved by their performance, Sue realizes the glee club is good for the kids and confronts Principal Figgins. She convinces him to give the glee club one more year. New Directions is ecstatic when Mr. Schue tells them the news and he congratulates them by performing “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.”
