Growing Up Pippa
Born in 1983 as Philippa Charlotte Middleton in Reading, Berkshire, she was quickly nicknamed “Pip” by her family and “Pippa” by friends. Only one year younger than older sister Kate, Pippa is the second oldest kid in the family - they also have a little brother named James. Their parents, Mike and Carol Middleton both worked for British Airways - their mother as a flight attendant and father as a flight dispatcher.
Sibling Rivalry?
When Pippa was a toddler, her mother set up a business called Party Pieces which sold party decorations and supplies. It became a big success and it made the Middleton family millionaires. Both Pippa and Kate attended Marlborough College - one of the best public schools in the UK!

Her Royal Friends
When it was time to go to university, Pippa decided to go to Edinburgh University rather than go to St. Andrews University where her sister met Prince William. At school, Pippa made a lot of royal friends including George Percy, the son and heir of the Duke of Northumberland and Lord Edward Innesker. On holidays, Pippa liked going to stay at country cottages in the English countryside with her royal friends.

The Party Business
After leaving university, she lived with her sister Kate in Chelsea, a very posh area of London. She now works as a party and event organiser in London and also works on her parents’ company ”Party Pieces”. She writes an online magazine called The Party Times for her parents’ party website and gives advice about how to throw the best kids’ parties like a “Groovy Gruffalo” party or a “Tangled Princess Party” where everyone could decorate their own crowns and have a tiara hunt game. Pippa has said that she likes to work in the party field because “it’s a happy environment”. We’d love to have Pippa plan our next birthday party!
Fun Facts!
- Pippa once had two members of royalty as roommates in university!
- Her younger brother James is also in the party business, he owns a cake company called “Cake Kit”.
- Pippa is known as the outgoing sister compared to Kate who is more quiet.
- Was voted as one of the “200 Coolest Kids in Town” by Tatler Magazine
