E3 2011 Preview

May 30, 2011

The 2011 edition of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, runs from June 7th to June 9th. During this time, expect to see lots of big news and announcement come from the show floor and the presentations of big companies like Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft.

The Big Three

Once again, the big three console makers: Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft, will be hosting their own press shows during the E3 event. Sony is expected to official reveal their Next Generation Portable, the successor to the PSP. It is already known that the new handheld will have a touch screen and touch sensors on the back. Additionally, it is expected to be priced competitively against Nintendo's 3DS. What is unknown, however, is if Sony will give more information about the next generation console that they had confirmed was in the works.

Nintendo, on the other hand, has confirmed that they will be talking about their next gen console, currently known as Project Cafe. This new console will feature a touch screen on the controller and it is rumored that players can use their 3DS as controllers as well. Additionally, big titles like The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time will no doubt be showed off. Microsoft has been surprisingly quiet in the past month. Expect to see lots of neat games, with possible a big title for the Kinect motion sensor.

The Other Big Boys

Square Enix has already kicked off some of their game announcements, starting with Heroes of Ruins, a drop-in/drop-out multiplayer game for the Nintendo 3DS that will be taking advantage of the StreetPass and SpotPass features of the handheld. Additionally, Disney will be showing off Disney Universe, which will be an action multiplayer for multiple consoles. Finally, other long expected titles, such as Star Craft 2: Heart of the Swarm, will be seen on the show floor.

Sony and Nintendo has already announced that they will be livestreaming their presentations. Of course, you can always check Kidzworld.com next week for the full coverage!
