Bastion is a super fun, witty and addicting game that is available for download for the PC and XBox Live Arcade. At its heart, it is a fairly simple Action RPG game, but there are several features that makes Bastion stand out among the rest and makes the game worth your time and money.
The Plot Thickens
The story of Bastion is nothing special: you play as the boy known as "the Kid", who wakes up in a world struck by disaster. In this world, people gather at a place called Bastion when bad stuff happen. However, the Bastion is in shambles and it is up to you to rebuild it. What makes the story fun, however, is the fact that there is a narrator that literally narrates everything you do as you do it. This includes when you are smashing pots for fun and when you stand around doing nothing. If you end up beating the game and playing through New Game Plus mode, the narrator will even note that in his voice over commentary.
Sword and Shield and Gun
The gameplay in Bastion is also quite fun. You get two weapons, a shield and a special attack. There are a wide variety of guns and swords to load out with and you can level up as well as collect idols that can make the monsters harder to kill but will get you better rewards. The combat in the game is very skill focused. If you master the dodge and roll, you can defeat almost any enemy without taking a single hit.
As the game and story is slowly unvealed to you as you play through it, Bastion manages to stay entertaining and interesting from start to finish. There is a constant stream of nice surprises to discover while playing through the game, including multiple endings. Overall, the game is beautiful and is one of the better buy out there this summer.
