Chris Colfer Bio

Sep 26, 2011

Chris Colfer’s portrayal of Kurt on the hit show Glee has won him fans around the world. Find out what inspired his musical success in his Kidzworld Bio.

Humble Beginnings

Chris Colfer rose to fame as the singing sensation Kurt Hummel on the TV show Glee. Before being cast on Glee Chris had very little professional experience. He was born in Clovis, California, and was always very interested in drama and theatre. During high school he placed ninth in the State Competition for Dramatic Interpretation. He was also very involved with his school’s drama club and writer’s club.

His first role was in a stage version of The Sound of Music, in which he played the young brother Kurt. When he was 18 years old, Chris appeared in his first film called Russel Fish: The Sausage and Eggs Incident. This experience gave him a taste for acting and made him more determined than ever to make it big in Hollywood.

Gleeked Out

In 2009 Chris got the role of a lifetime when he was cast as Kurt Hummel in Glee. The series follows a group of high school students who band together to form a singing group (also called a glee club). Kurt loves musical theatre, aspires to be on Broadway and is often bullied because of his sexuality. But he leans upon his friends in the glee club and is able to work towards making his dreams become a reality.

Real Life Reflection

Chris originally auditioned for the role of Artie but was turned down. The creator of Glee liked Chris so much that he wrote a role for him. Chris has even provided inspiration for one episode of the show. In Season 2 Kurt is told he cannot sing the song ‘Defying Gravity’ from Wicked because it is a woman’s role. This experience actually happened to Chris in real life. In 2010 Chris was honored with the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series.
