Matthew Morrison Bio

Oct 04, 2011

Fans of Glee love Matthew Morrison, who plays teacher Will Schuester. Find out more about this singing stud in his Kidzworld Bio.

Star Student

Matthew Morrison grew up in Orange County, California. He attended a special high school that catered to students with special talents in performing and visual arts. While there he focused on his acting and singing skills. After graduating from high school Matthew attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts (Lady Gaga, Kristen Bell and Alexis Bledel also went here). He did not graduate from college though because he started appearing in Broadway productions.

On Broadway

He began his climb to fame with roles on Broadway in the musicals Footloose (based on the movie) and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. In 2002 he landed a key role in Hairspray, a musical that ran for several years. After this he made guest appearances in TV shows and movies like Dan in Real Life with Steve Carell before making it big on Glee.

Head Gleek

In 2009 Matthew landed the sought after role of Mr. Schuester on Glee. The series follows a group of high school students who band together to form a singing group (also called a glee club). Matthew plays Mr. Schuester, the teacher that supervises and motivates the kids in the club. He landed the role thanks to his past experience singing and dancing on Broadway. Thanks to the success of the show, Matthew landed a record contract and his first album was released in 2011.
