PSP Vita: Launch Games and Details

Jan 22, 2012

Sony's next generation handheld gaming device, the PSP Vita, is already out in Japan and will be arriving in North America in February. There will be plenty of games available at launch, and many of them will take advantage of the Vita's unique features.

Not Just a Pretty Face

Aside from pumped up processing power and graphics, the Vita features two analog sticks, a 5-inch touch screen, a multi-touchpad on the back, and SIXAXIS motion control. There is also a camera on the front and back that is capable of face detection and head tracking. There will be two versions of the Vita available at launch. Both models of the Vita will have built-in Wi-Fi and bluetooth, but the more expensive model will also have 3G, GPS, and augmented reality software.

Battery life for the Vita is estimated at about three to five hours for gameplay, five hours for movie watching, and nine hours for listening to music. Although the Vita will not have a removable battery, an external battery has been announced.

Launch Games

Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush, Hustle Kings, Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational and Reality Fighters will be available at launch. Also available will be Wipeout, Resistance, LittleBigPlanet, BlazBlue, Ridge Racer, and Call of Duty. The Vita will have Trophy support for games.

Some backwards compatibility is available for games downloaded from PSN. Some of these games will have support for the Vita’s dual analog sticks. Instead of UMDs, the Vita will use a special memory card that is similar to a SD card that some games will require.
