Here's the 411 on the New Sony PSP - The Playstation Portable!
Sony's been getting its butt kicked in the handheld console biz by Nintendo's Gameboy for years but now they're fighting back with the new Playstation Portable, or PSP. What is this hot new system and what can it do? Well, it dropped on March 24, 2005 and the news went wild on the IGN Playstation Portable, GameSpy PS2 and Playstation Portable, and GameStats Playstation Portable sites but we have the info right here too. Rumors say that they can play games, movies, MP3s, organize photos and maybe even train your dog to fetch. Here are the facts!
PSP, Playstation Portable, Entertainment System FeaturesThis sucker is 7" wide, 3" tall, 1" thick and weighs in at just over half a pound. It uses Memory Sticks, wireless networking, USB plugs and special 1.8 GB UMD discs to cram info onto the massive 4.3" wide screen. The screen on the PSP is way bigger than even the Nintendo DS's 3" wide screen, and it has the graphics power of a PS2! To top it off, it has Dolby Digital 7.1 sound, stereo speakers, a lithium ion battery pack, an AC adaptor and even security software so it won't get hacked like Paris Hilton's cell phone.
Sony's PSP Value Pack DealOne wicked perk of the PSP is that it comes in a value pack. When you snag one of these you get:
And, if you score one of the first million PSP Value Packs, you also get a UMD of the Spider-Man 2 movie!
But, What Does the Sony PSP Do?Everything. Well, ok, it probably can't train your dog to fetch. But, the PSP plays video games, movies and MP3s as well as storing pictures. It can also get on the internet, just to update itself right now but e-mail and chatting can't be that far off! Heck, give this thing a web-browser and you could probably surf Kidzworld with it!
Sony PSP Entertainment System FlawsThis electronic powerhouse does everything, including devour battery power by the handful! A full charge is only good for about 2.5-3 hours of game time or 10 hours of just playing MP3s - then it's back to the wall-socket for a recharge. It's also $250 US ($300 CAN) for one of these things so you better start saving your allowance.
Is the Sony PSP Worth It?If you have the cash to spend on super-cool hardware and don't mind lugging around a few spare battery packs, this is the coolest thing ever. But, if you're looking for a game system on a budget, this isn't it.
