This week on Gossip Girl (Season 5, Episode 17), CeCe’s wake is a wake-up call for the van der Woodsen family. Read Kidzworld’s recap of “The Princess Dowry,” which aired on February 27, 2012, to discover what you missed.
The Inheritance
Knowing that chaos would ensue after her death, CeCe (Serena’s grandmother) took the liberty of arranging her own wake. Serena’s father returns to deliver the will. Lily and her sister are already at odds when they learn that their mother left her entire fortune to Ivy Dickens (the Charlie Rhodes imposter). They accuse her of theft, which Ivy denies, saying that all she did was keep Cece company in the final stages of her life. Not only did Ivy get the money, she also got Lily and Rufus’s apartment.
Blackmail
To add to the van der Woodsen drama, we also learn that Serena’s father is actually Charlie Rhodes’ father as well, though he wasn't aware of this until the wake. Now Charlie’s mother is using that little curveball as blackmail to get her share of Cece's money.
The Dowry Loophole
The backstabbing continues wherever Georgina is concerned. Now that she’s giving up her exhausting post as Gossip Girl, she decides to go out with a bang. She posts the picture of Blair and Dan kissing, knowing that it'll ruin Blair’s chance of finding a loophole in her marriage contract. But in the end, Georgina offers to repay her backstabbing, but only if Blair gives her something in return.
Heart Belongs to Humphrey
Chuck reveals that Dan posted the video to Gossip Girl on the day of Blair’s wedding, hoping this will turn Blair against Dan. Unfortunately for him, nothing can sway Blair from her new affection for Dan. She admits to Chuck that she still loves him, but she’s no longer “in love” with him. Her heart belongs to Humphrey. Hallelujah!
