Torrey Joel DeVitto was born in Huntington, Long Island in New York to artistic parents, her father Liberty DeVitto was the drummer for Billy Joel and she and her sisters often toured with her parents when she was young. Being a performer clearly ran in the family since her sister Maryelle is also an actress and starred in the show Endurance. Acting wasn’t Torrey’s first passion though, she began learnind violin at age 6 and by the time she was 12-years-old she was such a talented violinist that she played a solo at supermodel Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook’s wedding!

Modeling and Music

Torrey’s introduction to being in front of the cameras came in the form of modeling, she and her family moved to Florida when she was a teenager, but the summer after she graduated high school she spent a summer modeling in Japan, when she returned she moved to Los Angeles to truly get her career started. She decided she wanted to be more than just a pretty face in photos and started going out for commercials as well as modeling, but even though she landed lots of commercial roles, she knew that she eventually wanted to act. Not to mention she continued to play violin, playing on stage and the backing for albums.

Small Screen Queen

Torrey has landed roles in films such as I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer and Rite, but it’s on the small screen where she’s found the most success to date. She first appeared in the ABC show Beautiful People as an aspiring model, but since then has become well known as Carrie, the psycho nanny on One Tree Hill, Dr. Meredith Fell on The Vampire Diaries and Melissa Hastings, the older sister of ‘liar’ Spencer on Pretty Little Liars. Recently she landed a recurring role as Maggie on the TV show Army Wives.

Did You Know...

In 2011 Torrey married her long-time boyfriend and sometimes co-star Paul Wesley who stars on Stefan Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries. The two met in 2007 on the set of Killer Movie.
