Aug 05, 2013

The CW’s new show Reign focuses on Mary Queen of Scots. Learn more about the show in Kidzworld’s fall TV preview.

History Lesson

The CW has opened the history books to get inspiration for their fall 2013 lineup. Reign, set to premiere October 17, follows the story of Mary Stuart, better known as Mary Queen of Scots. Born in Scotland, Mary is sent to France to form an alliance between the two countries by marrying the king’s son, Prince Francis. Although arranged marriages are complicated enough, things get worse when Prince Francis’ half-brother Sebastian falls for Mary.

Starring…

Mary Queen of Scots is played by Adelaide Kane. Adelaide was born in Australia and is best known for playing Cora on Teen Wolf.

British actor Toby Regbo plays Prince Francis. Toby was in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and the film One Day.

Torrance Coombs stars as Sebastian, the half-brother of Prince Francis. Torrance is from Vancouver, Canada. He has been in The Tudors, Heartland and Battlestar Galactica.

“Instruction in world history in the so-called high schools is even today in a very sorry condition. Few teachers understand that the study of history can never be to learn historical dates and events by heart and recite them by rote; that what matters is not whether the child knows exactly when this battle or that was fought, when a general was born, or even when a monarch (usually a very insignificant one) came into the crown of his forefathers. No, by the living God, this is very unimportant. To 'learn' history means to seek and find the forces which are the causes leading to those effects which we subsequently perceive as historical events.”

'We prefer to do things comfortably.'But I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want sin.'In fact,' said Mustapha Mond, 'you're claiming the right to be unhappy. Not to mention the right to grow old and ugly and impotent; the right to have ######## and cancer, the right to have too little to eat; the right to be lousy; the right to live in constant apprehension of what may happen tomorrow; the right to catch typhoid; the right to be tortured by unspeakable pains of every kind.' There was a long silence.I claim them all,' said the Savage at last.Mustapha Mond shrugged his shoulders. 'You're welcome,' he said.”  I freaking LOVE Brave New World! It's one of the best books I've ever read, and that conversation between the Controller and John is my favorite part  [s:sm3/1jw1]
