RESOGUN: PS4 Game Preview

Oct 25, 2013

From the minds of Finnish game developer, Housemarque, comes the spiritual successor to Super Stardust HD. It's called, Resogun, it's available at launch for the Playstation 4 and it's free for PS Plus members.

Resogun, is a new take on the  "Shmup" (Shoot-em-up) genre. Shmups are vertical or horizontal shooters, scrolling on a 2D plain and are often referred to as "bullet hell" games because the amount of fire power you have to avoid is beyond what most deem fair. But there is always a way through the chaos.

What makes Resogun stand out - other than the explosions of impressive particle effects - is the unique way the action comes at you. You work your way around a transparent cylinder, moving your ship up and down, dodging enemy fire and unleashing some devastating projectiles of your own. You can see what dangers may be coming as the world bends into view.

Your ship in Resogun, is piloted up and down with the left analog stick, while the right analog controls your main weapon of choice. You can only defend yourself by shooting left and right, which makes for some tense "twin-stick" twitch gaming. Thankfully you've got more than just primary cannons at your disposal, with bombs and wide range of power-ups available to help you get the upper hand.

If you're looking to show off a shiny new indie game, Resogun may fit the bill nicely.

Housemarque is also promising that Resogun will evolve over time and that it won't be the same game a year from now. With multiplayer co-op as well as unannounced features being added via software updates.

There's a lot reasons for gamers to be excited about next-gen and Resogun is one of them. Resogun, will be available exclusively on the PS4 when the console launches, November 15th. It will be free for PS Plus members.
