Sep 22, 2014

This past weekend was the official end of summer, and what a summer it was for sports! So many incredible moments and heartwarming stories over the past three months we thought we would take a look at the Top 5 Summer Sports Moments for 2014.

5. Serena Wins Third Straight U.S. Open

Serena Williams silenced any doubts that she was no longer the queen of tennis by smashing her way to a third straight U.S. Open title in Flushing Meadows, New York. The world number one dominated Caroline Wozniacki in the final 6-3, 6-3 to capture her 18th Grand Slam title.

4. Mo'Ne Davis

The pitcher from Philly took the Little League World Series by storm with her fearless pitching and funny post-game interviews. Mo'Ne was not only cool under pressure in one of the biggest sporting events of the summer, she was an inspiration for all the little girls out there who know they can play just as well as the boys out there. Mo'Ne became the first female pitcher to earn a win at the LLWS when she picked up the W for the Taney Dragons on August 14.

3. USA Strikes Gold at FIBA World Cup of Basketball

The FIBA World Cup of Basketball took place in Spain and even though the United States was missing some superstars, the boys in blue still took home the Gold Medal with a Finals victory over the scrappy Serbians. Anthony Davis led the way on the defensive end along with Kenneth Fareid (named to All-Tournament Team) while Kyrie Irving was named Tournament MVP. USA! USA! USA!

2. LeBron Returns to Cleveland

Arguably the most talked about sports moment all summer was an off season signing of LeBron James by the Cleveland Cavaliers, who convinced the best player in basketball to return home to Ohio and help the Cavs win a title. Since signing LeBron the Cavs have shipped the last two #1 picks in the NBA draft to Minnesota and received Kevin Love in return, solidifying their status as contenders for the title in 2015.
