3 Big Things To Expect From Nintendo

May 27, 2016

By: Max Cannon

Nintendo has made an interesting path for themselves in the games industry. From being the pioneer of the home console to the champion of motion controlled gaming, there have been a lot of ups and downs. Recently with the failure of the Wii U and the success of the Nintendo DS, 2DS and 3DS this is more illustrated than ever. So while things may seem harder for the company they are far from done.

The Possibilities of The Nintendo NX

The Wii U was one of Nintendo's biggest and most recent stumbles, console sales have been incredibly weak as has their line up of first party games. You can always see though that Nintendo fans are loyal as many of their games have an incredibly high attach rate. An attach rate is how many people own a game compared to how many people own the console. For example a 100% attach rate to a game means that every person who owns a Wii U owns that game. And successful games like Mario Kart 8 have a 50% attach rate, which means that every other person who owns a Wii U owns that game, which is crazy!

This means Nintendo makes incredibly successful games but needs to work on a successful console. Rumors are all over the place of crazy controllers, but the NX could be exactly what Nintendo needs to climb to the top. It has been assumed that the NX will be more powerful than both the PS4 and the Xbox One. While it'll be challenging to overthrow Sony's massive lead, we can expect that Nintendo will hopefully learn from their mistakes and give us the console we're hoping for.

The Nintendo MH

You've probably heard rumors of the NX forever, but now we have heard rumblings of the Nintendo MH. While the NX was at one point predicted to be a console/handheld hybrid those seem to be put to rest with the leak of this new codename. Not much is known yet but with Nintendo's recent plunge into the mobile market and realizing that the New Nintendo 3DS is pretty new, it wouldn't be crazy to think of this as something that could be closer to a [kwlink 30094]mobile platform[/kwlink].

My prediction though is something a little more out there. Though it's not selling crazy well, the PlayStation Vita can stream your games impressively well from your PS4, I think it wouldn't be out of this world to assume that Nintendo may be thinking of some kind of pair up between the NX and the MH that's similar to Sony's move. Sadly we won't be seeing either console at E3, though the NX has a March 2017 release window, there is one thing we will certainly be seeing at E3.

The Legend of Zelda: NX Edition

Nintendo has confirmed that they will have a limited E3 presence, but we will definitely see the new Zelda game. Though people expect a small demonstration or an interview here or there, it has been confirmed by several news outlets that Nintendo plans for around a 90 minute showcase for the game! We can expect a lot from them and potentially our first look at the game running on the NX.

The game has been confirmed for the Wii U and, similar to The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, will be cross-platformed and see a release on the NX as well. The game is going to take a more open world approach as well so we can expect the new game to take some inspiration from games like Skyrim or The Witcher.
