PlayStation's E3 2018 Press Conference Recap

Jun 12, 2018

By: Max Cannon

PlayStation is known for bringing some killer announcements at their E3 conferences, hopefully, this year won't be any different. Fingers crossed that we get a deeper look at Spider-Man in the show!

The Last of Us Part II

One of PlayStation's biggest exclusives kicked off the show with a bit of footage that switches between a moving cutscene and an intense demo. While the first game had players mostly playing as Joel, this seems to center more around Ellie as she's the first playable character we've seen in the game. The gorgeous visuals help sell the impressive performances from that cutscene. No new information on when we can expect to actually play the game.

Play Call of Duty for Free

A surprise announcement, which revealed that 4 classic maps would be coming to Black Ops 4, was followed up by confirmation that the new maps were also added to Black Ops 3 tonight. Don't have Black Ops 3? No problem. The game was added to PlayStation Plus tonight for gamers that don't already have the game!

Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding

Just like Sony told us we'd see, both Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding made a big splash during the conference. Ghost of Tsushima took players to Japan during the Mongol invasion and Death Stranding took us... somewhere mysterious looking. Like The Last of Us, no news on a release date for either game shown off here.

Remedy's Next Big Game

The developer of Max Payne and Quantum Break showed off their next big game, Control. A title which looked had that Remedy-flair on it, the female protagonist looks capable of bending time and space in some way and the heavily stylized trailer concluded with a 2019 launch window. Despite winding up on Sony's stage, this game is planned to come to Xbox One and PC on top of the obvious release on PlayStation 4.

Another Kingdom Hearts Trailer

This is the third time we've seen a Kingdom Hearts trailer at E3 this year and this is the most impressive looking one yet. While the other trailer, which was shown off twice, focused on the worlds of Frozen and Tangled, PlayStation's trailer took us to the graphically gorgeous world of Pirates of the Caribbean. If you pick the game up on PS4 you'll also get the remixes of Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2. The game launches on January 29th, 2019.

Spider-Man's Many Villains

The show wrapped up with a surprisingly lengthy look at Marvel's Spider-Man that took our hero into the RAFT which is S.H.I.E.L.D's maximum security prison and some threatening inmates throw down with our protagonist. A crazy set-piece has our hero web-swinging inside and outside of this water-surrounded prison during a nasty rain storm. Check out the new gameplay footage below!
