Skies of Arcadia - Dreamcast RPG Review
Courtesy of SegaSkies of Arcadia is the first role-playing game for the
Sega Dreamcast and they're starting with a bang. You enter the world of Arcadia as Vyse, captain of the Blue Rogues, the noblest Sky Pirates in the land. Your adventure starts when you rescue a young girl from the Empire of Valua and end up in a battle to save the world.
Skies of Arcadia Basics
Where to begin? It's on the
Dreamcast so the graphics are hot stuff. You can make out every brick in a fortress, scope out the enemy flag when Air
Pirates bear down on you, and watch the huge landscapes fly beneath your airship. The sound matches up nicely with the graphics, good tunes and fast fight music but nothing that'll make you wanna buy the
soundtrack.

Once you stop staring at the graphics you'll be able to sink your teeth into the story and try to figure out what everyone's up to. There are a heap of characters you can ally with, half have their own plans though, so watch out.
Skies of Arcadia Crash & Burn
The only weak point in the
Skies of Arcadia is the combat. You can't get 10 steps without tripping over a
monster and the fights are awkward. It takes a while to build up your power attacks so there's no way to wipe out critters quickly.
Skies of Arcadia Final Word
The Skies of Arcadia are full of adventure and
wicked characters, even with a few too many monsters it's close to perfect.
Skies of Arcadia Thumbs Up:
Great characters.
Detailed graphics.
You get to start with an airship - mucho airtime!
Skies of Arcadia Thumbs Down:
Too much combat.
