Summerland TV Show Fun Facts

After her sister and brother-in-law die in a tragic accident, quirky fashion designer Ava Gregory (played by Lori Loughlin) is forced to grow up and take care of their three kids. Thanks to an irresistible combination of cool actors and hot locations, Summerland became the gotta watch series but it was short-lived. Summerland - Fun Facts

Due to low ratings, Summerland was cancelled by the WB in 2005. Unfortunately the show hasn't made it's way onto DVD just yet, but keep checking back to find out when it does!

Star Lori Loughlin, who is best known for playing Aunt Becky on Full House, actually came up with the idea for the show herself. Executive producer Aaron Spelling thought it would be cool if her character was a fashion designer.

Though Ava's house on the beach looks like it is surrounded by other homes, all of them have been digitally added by computers. The series is filmed in Malibu.

Several of the last names used in the show - Durant, Spalding, Rexford, and Robertson - are actually references to streets in Beverly Hills, which is where producer Stephen Tolkin lives.

The show has featured a number of quirky guest stars, including Rosanna Arquette (big sis to Patricia and David) and C. Thomas Howell (who actually costarred with Loughlin in a 1985 comedy called Secret Admirer)

Actress Kay Panabaker plays Nikki on the show, and in real life she is extremely smart (she graduated high school when she was just 12 years old!).

Before landing the role of Bradin on Summerland, actor Jesse McCartney was in the band Dream Street that toured with Britney Spears! Jesse has released his album which had some hits like Beautiful Soul.

Actress Taylor Cole, who plays surf instructor Erica Spalding, spent her teen years working as a professional model and traveled all around the world to places like Italy and Australia. Believe it or not, Taylor is Shawn Christian's stepdaughter in real life!
