Fat Albert Movie Review

Dec 27, 2006

'70s smash cartoon, Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, was based on Bill Cosby's real-life childhood friends as they grew up in inner-city Philadelphia. Now, these old school cartoon characters jump to the big screen in the very funny flick, Fat Albert.

Hey, Hey, Hey, It's Fat Albert!

Doris (played by Kyla Pratt) is an unpopular teen who doesn't fit in or have any friends. One day after school, she tunes into the cartoon, Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids. She cries out to the big guy with a big heart (played by SNL's Kenan Thompson), and as her tears hit the remote control, Fat Albert and his crew magically step out of their animated world and come to life!

Life-Sized Problems

Fat Albert's mission in life is to solve other people's problems, but he runs into his own troubles while helping Doris make new friends - he falls for Doris' popular sister, which makes him want to stay in the real world. However, the longer Fat Albert and his funky friends stay outside of their animated world, the more their colorful outfits fade and abilities change. Dumb Donald suddenly becomes smart, Mushmouth's mumbled speech clears up and clumsy Weird Harold turns into a slick b-ball player!

Bottom Line

The Fat Albert cast is filled with young music superstars, including Aaron Carter, B2K's Omarion and Marques Houston, who plays Dumb Donald. You're definitely going to have a good time as you watch this musical, feel-good movie about a group of kind-hearted kids who help each other out.
