Nicktoons: Attack of the Toybots :: DS Game Review

Help SpongeBob SquarePants, Danny Phantom and more cool Nicktoons characters save the world from an army of evil toybots! Here’s our game review.

It's a peaceful day in Nicktoons world, SpongeBob SquarePants is chillin at bikini bottom, Jimmy Neutron is inventing a nuclear toaster and robot toys are on a rampage. Wait, what? It's up to you and the famous Nicktoons cartoon characters to save the day from Professor Calamitous' plot to take over the world with an army of toy robots. Is this game a blast or is it time to change the channel? Find out with Gary's DS game review.

Saving the Day, One Toybot at a Time

Each level in this game gives you two characters to take on three stages of action.

Action - Smash robots, earn power points and drive a giant mech!

Ride - Race the giant mech through an obstacle course towards the boss.

Boss - Dodge left and right as you unleash mech attacks against a robotic boss.

The power points you collect in the Action stage give your mech hit points that you need to survive the Ride and Boss stages so make sure to stock up!

Cartoon Characters to the Rescue!

There are a ton of cool features in this game. Three gameplay modes and a chance to get SpongeBob SquarePants rockin' the bad guys in a transforming mech is just awesome. Controlling Nicktoons characters, and unlocking more with each level, is great. And, teaming up with a friend for multiplayer mayhem, with just one game card, is even better.

Boring Battles

Unfortunately there's no strategy to battling the waves of enemy robots except "Play as SpongeBob, he rocks." The Ride levels are frustrating too - the controls are weak and there's almost no room to maneuver so expect to crash a lot.

Smash Hit or Smash It?

Attack of the Toybots is a fun game that won't leave you feeling like you've just taken a math test. It has mini-games, multiplayer and enough action to keep you punching buttons through all six levels and it's full of cool cartoon characters. Plus, the 3D boss-battles are awesome!
