Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors :: Wii Game Review

Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors is the first Dragon Quest game for the Nintendo Wii and it has a stupidly huge name! It lets you play the son of a legendary swordsman and battle monsters by swinging your Wiimote like a sword as you prove your skills and uncover the mystery behind the masked queen. Is it any fun? Here's Gary's game review.

Swords, Masks and Monsters!

Buckle up for some heroing! As the newest master swordsman in the fantasy world of Avalonia, you get to be the one to rally a group of heroes to help you uncover the mystery behind the queen going all loopy and wearing a freaky mask. Along the way you'll battle monsters, gain levels and upgrade your items as you prepare to challenge the ultimate evil!

Wicked Wiimote Weaponry

Rather than letting you sit on your butt and watch the battle, Dragon Quest Swords challenges you to bash the monsters by swinging the Wiimote around like a sword! You slash at the bad guys, using different attacks for different monsters, blocking with your shield and even knocking attacks back with well-timed blows! It's awesome, easy to learn and, after you charge up a special bar, you can unleash a super attack that does massive damage!

Do You Smell Something Stupid?

Sadly this game left its brain at the door. For starters, the plot is pretty dumb and the characters will make you want to stick your sword in their eye. The levels put you on a train track, you can go forward and back, but you can't go exploring. There aren't even many bonus items to collect! And, finally, the entire adventure is barely 10 hours long.

Swordfighting FTW?

Bashing monsters by swinging your Wiimote like a sword is awesome and makes the battles incredibly cool! Unfortunately, the story is a dud, your options are limited and the game is really short. It's a great intro RPG game because it's fun and simple, but hardcore Dragon Quest fans should stick to renting this one.

Thumbs Up:

  • Wiimote swordfighting = AWESOME!
  • Easy controls.
  • Great intro RPG adventure.

  • Thumbs Down:

  • The characters are annoying.
  • The plot is really basic.
  • It's really short!
  • Barely any options - you can't even wander around the dungeons!

  • Game Rating:

    Available for: Wii.
