Born: February 12, 1992
Where: Grand Rapids, Michigan

Karate Kid

You probably know Taylor Lautner best from starring alongside Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson as Jacob in Twilight, but did you know that the performing bug hit him as a youngster when he studied karate[/kwlink]. By the time he was 12, Taylor was representing the USA as the Junior World Champion in forms and weapons.

Action!

After auditioning for a Burger King commercial, Taylor decided to focus on acting, and would fly from Grand Rapids to L.A. to audition. Obviously not the ideal situation, the Lautner family finally made the move to California where Taylor landed numerous roles. In 2005, Taylor hit the big screen as SharkBoy in The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl in 3-D, and appeared in Cheaper by the Dozen 2.

A Howling Success

Then, in 2008 Taylor landed the role of Jacob Black in the film version of Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight. After Twilight’s success, there were rumors that Taylor might not be old or mature enough to return as Jacob in Twilight’s upcoming sequel, New Moon. But the young actor put those rumors to rest when he hit the gym and put on over [kwlink 8636]twenty pounds of muscle[kwlink], and you can look forward to seeing much more of Taylor as the series continues.

Fun Facts

  • In addition to martial arts, Taylor loves baseball, where he played centerfield and second base, and [kwlink14924]football[/kwlink], where he played running back and middle linebacker.
  • Taylor is a fan of his hometown Michigan Wolverines.
  • Taylor once showed off his martial art skill on an episode of America’s Most Talented Kids.
  • Lautner is of mixed [kwlink 17923]French[/kwlink., Dutch, German, and [b]Native American descent.

  • Taylor Says

“[Jacob's angry werewolf side] is not like me in real life; I'm like Jacob's Native American side. I'm very friendly, outgoing, energetic and easy to talk to. But playing the werewolf side, where he's holding all this anger and stuff inside him, that'd be very different for me. I love to challenge myself as an actor."

Many of the reviews and critics say it's bad because they are only looking at it from 'comic to movie' perspective. It was still a really cool movie and you should go see it. I'd have to agree with this. The movie itself was great. I think some people looked at it poorly because they were expecting something more similar to the older films or comparing it too hard to the comics. I personally think that it was a great way to reinvent some of the characters.

"It's so hard to talk when you want to k-ll yourself. That's above and beyond everything else, and it's not a mental complaint-it's a physical thing, like it's physically hard to open your mouth and make the words come out. They don't come out smooth and in conjunction with your brain the way normal people's words do; they come out in chunks as if from a crushed-ice dispenser; you stumble on them as they gather behind your lower lip. So you just keep quiet.” Ned Vizzini, "It's Kind of a Funny Story"

“Isn't there something in living dangerously?' There's a great deal in it,' the Controller replied. 'Men and women must have their adrenals stimulated from time to time.' What?' questioned the Savage, uncomprehending. It's one of the conditions of perfect health. That's why we've made the V.P.S. treatments compulsory.' V.P.S.?' Violent Passion Surrogate. Regularly once a month. We flood the whole system with adrenin. It's the complete physiological equivalent of fear and rage. All the tonic effects of murdering Desdemona and being murdered by Othello, without any of the inconvenience.' But I like the inconveniences.' We don't,' said the Controller. 'We prefer to do things comfortably.' But I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want sin.' In fact,' said Mustapha Mond, 'you're claiming the right to be unhappy. Not to mention the right to grow old and ugly and impotent; the right to have ######## and cancer, the right to have too little to eat; the right to be lousy; the right to live in constant apprehension of what may happen tomorrow; the right to catch typhoid; the right to be tortured by unspeakable pains of every kind.' There was a long silence. I claim them all,' said the Savage at last. Mustapha Mond shrugged his shoulders. 'You're welcome,' he said.”
