Listen to 16-year-old singing phenomenon Justin Bieber and you’ll realize he is light years ahead of other pop singers his age. Justin's first release, My World, went platinum and gave him the highest debut by a new artist. Justin was also the first artist to chart seven songs from a debut on Billboard's Hot 100!

It's hard to imagine Justin Bieber without his legion of screaming fans, but Justin had a humble start. After posting dozens of homemade videos on YouTube in 2007, putting his unique spin on songs from artists like Usher, Ne-Yo and Stevie Wonder, Justin racked up over 10,000,000 views on his own.

Canadian Idol

But the Canadian native who grew up an only child says he sort of started singing by accident when he entered a singing competition called Stratford Idol. The other contestants had been taking singing lessons and had vocal coaches while he was just singing around the house. He was only 12 and he won second place.

That’s when Justin started posting footage online. He put videos of himself singing on YouTube, mainly to share with friends and family. But as it turned out, other people were watching those videos and started subscribing to them. One of those people would eventually become Justin’s manager.

Ushered To Atlanta

Just seven months after Justin started posting his videos online, So So Def flew the 13-year-old to Atlanta to meet with the label’s staff – including Usher. Besides impressing them with his singing, Justin showed off his other musical talents, which include playing the drums, guitar, piano and trumpet.

All it took was a short time online for Usher to realize Justin was a future superstar, and he flew the young singer back to Atlanta immediately. While there Justin also met with Justin Timberlake, who also wanted to sign him. It turned out Usher's deal was way better and, in October 2008, he officially signed to Island Records.

Justin’s World

Justin’s debut album My World is a look into the mind of a budding young singer. His first single One Time is about one of Justin's favorite topics: puppy love. And on another track called Down to Earth he digs deep to talk about growing up.

Justin says he wants to influence others in a positive way with the message that you can do anything if you just put your mind to it. Justin, who grew up below the poverty line, says not having as many things as his friends at school made him stronger as a person and built his character. Besides singing, he says his goals are to go to college and become a better person.

Justin’s My World 2.0

Justin's My World 2.0 is the latter of two-part debut studio album from Canadian singer. This also the first full studio release from Bieber. The album is the follow-up to the first platinum certified half of the album My World, which was released on November 17, 2009. My World 2.0 was released on March 19, 2010. Justin Bieber will support the album by headlining his tour. The My World Tour is expected to start in June.
