Jackson Rathbone Bio

Birthdate:: December 21, 1984
Birthplace: SIngapore

You probably know Jackson Rathbone as Jasper from the Twilight saga, but did you know he’s also a talented musician? Find out the name of his band and a whole lot more in Kidzworld’s bio of Jackson Rathbone!

Jackson was born in Singapore, but because his family moved around so much for work, he’s lived everywhere from Jakarta, Indonesia to Midland, Texas! Despite the globetrotting, Jackson isn’t a master of languages. “I can only count to ten in Norwegian,” he jokes.

Pursuing His Passion

Jackson caught the acting bug early and after studying acting at a private school for the arts in Michigan, he picked up and moved to Los Angeles to pursue his passion.

Once he landed in L.A. he scored a role on “Disney 411,” interviewing Disney Channel stars like Amy Bruckner and Hilary Duff and soon after scored some minor roles in TV and indie movies. Jackson’s star was rising fast, but his fame really skyrockedted when he landed the role of Jasper in the Twilight saga.

Jackson As Jasper

Jackson brings a quiet sensitivity to his role as Jasper Hale. Jasper has the most trouble resisting human blood so Jackson tries to get that angst across while still trying to present Jasper as a guy you can relate to. Jackson says he was drawn to the role because “I like roles I can sink my teeth into.”

The Last Airbender

Jackson also stars in another big blockbuster this summer. He plays Sokka in M. Night Shyamalan’s recreation of The Last Airbender. In an interview with Nylon magazine, Jackson says The Last Airbender is “about finding the hero within against all odds.” The Last Airbender has “some of the most incredible action sequences, with all of these characters being able to manipulate the elements and being able to throw fire and throw water to block it…” Jackson says. “However,” he jokes, “my character only gets to throw a boomerang. That’s not as rock n’ roll as being able to bend water.”

Did You Know?

  • Jackson has a cat named Dean who he says is “fat and happy and [likes to] sleep on my face.”
  • Jackson sings and plays guitar and bass in a band called 100 Monkeys. He even did the artwork for their latest album!
  • Jackson’s next movie is an indie flick called Truckstop.

It included a lot of mature themes and it really connects with today's older youth. You mean violence wise? Not just that, but the show tells the stories of the characters finding themselves. Take Asami for example. A lot of people have a late relative and another relative involved in some kind of trouble. She had her relationships AND family business to take care of, which relates to some of today's youth who feel like they have the whole world on their shoulders. They're starting to have to take responsibility for things they can hardly manage, and seeing the triumph of a character like Asami is truly inspiring. Her mother's dead, her father's in prison, her boyfriend was stolen from her, and her business nearly failed. But she did not give up, which sends a positive message to today's generation of teens. Mako was not stolen from Asami he just chose Korra and everyone knows that thats what people wanted. As messed up as that sounds its the truth.
