JLS Band Bio

Jul 10, 2018

Meet the UK’s biggest boyband - JLS! These four British boys have been making a name for themselves in the UK and are set to take the US by storm next. Meet the four British lads behind the R&B/pop boy band on Kidzworld!

Meet the Boys!

JLS is Oritse Williams, Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes and Jonathan JB Gill. Oritse wanted to get into the music industry to make money to help find a cure for mom, who has multiple sclerosis. He wanted to create a boy band just like his heroes, Boyz II Men! They all met and became quick friends and a new boy band was formed. Their original band name was UFO (which stood for Unique Famous Outrageous). As UFO they won their first award at the Urban Music Awards for Best Unsigned Act! Watch them perform their debut single in the US, ”Everybody In Love”!

The X Factor

When they auditioned for the X Factor talent show in 2008, they had to change the name UFO because someone else was using it! They picked JLS which stands for Jack the Lad Swing. The X Factor judges called them the best band to ever be on X Factor - they were a definite fave with Girls Aloud judge Cheryl Cole! Watch them perform their own version of Rihanna's Umbrella song on the X Factor!

The X Factor Finale

Audiences loved them too and they made it to the final two with Alexandra Burke. At one point, Simon Cowell even predicted they would win the whole thing! They are only the fourth band to ever make an X Factor finale. They lost to Alexandra Burke on the final night but they still got a record deal out of it! Listen to their first UK single, “Beat Again” which made number one on the UK Singles Chart when it was released! Result!

Boy Band on the Rise

They’ve sold over 1.3 milions records worldwide and are getting ready to release their second album called Outta This World. JLS member Marvin Hume says “We’re still a young band with a lot to prove. We want to prove that it wasn’t a fluke and we’re here to stay!” We certainly hope so!!
