The Vampire Diaries: Season 2, Episode 21 :: The Sun Also Rises

May 04, 2011

This week on The Vampire Diaries (Season 2, Episode 21), Klaus finally performs the long awaited sacrifice, killing three major characters. Check out our recap of “The Sun Also Rises”, which aired May 5, 2011.

A Completed Sacrifice

After being killed by Klaus last episode – but not before she drank his blood – Jenna makes the full transition to vampire. She can now be used for Klaus’ sacrifice. After gathering Jenna (the vampire), Elena (the doppelganger) and Jules (the werewolf), Klaus and Greta perform a crazy ritual complete with chanting and fire. Stefan steps in at the last minute to offer himself instead of Jenna but Klaus turns him down and the sacrifice continues as planned.

Meanwhile, Bonnie, Jeremy and Alaric try to brainstorm a way for Elena to survive the sacrifice and come back to life as a human, not a vampire (after drinking Damon’s blood last episode). Klaus is finally successful in completing his sacrifice, killing Jules, Jenna and Elena. While Elena comes back to life at the end of the episode (thanks to Bonnie’s spell from last episode), the same good news can’t be said for the other two characters.

Brothers

With the sacrifice complete, Klaus finally turns into a werevamp, but not before Damon and Bonnie make an appearance. After they weaken Klaus and his witch, Elijah is supposed to finish off his brother. But, unfortunately, he can’t go through with it. Klaus tells him that they still have family alive, and he will take Elijah to see them if he lets Klaus live.

In next week’s season finale, Damon tries to deal with the consequences of his werewolf bite and the sacrifice continues to have an effect on everyone’s lives. Stay tuned for the last episode of The Vampire Diaries.

Many of the reviews and critics say it's bad because they are only looking at it from 'comic to movie' perspective. It was still a really cool movie and you should go see it. I'd have to agree with this. The movie itself was great. I think some people looked at it poorly because they were expecting something more similar to the older films or comparing it too hard to the comics. I personally think that it was a great way to reinvent some of the characters.

"It's so hard to talk when you want to k-ll yourself. That's above and beyond everything else, and it's not a mental complaint-it's a physical thing, like it's physically hard to open your mouth and make the words come out. They don't come out smooth and in conjunction with your brain the way normal people's words do; they come out in chunks as if from a crushed-ice dispenser; you stumble on them as they gather behind your lower lip. So you just keep quiet.” Ned Vizzini, "It's Kind of a Funny Story"

“Isn't there something in living dangerously?' There's a great deal in it,' the Controller replied. 'Men and women must have their adrenals stimulated from time to time.' What?' questioned the Savage, uncomprehending. It's one of the conditions of perfect health. That's why we've made the V.P.S. treatments compulsory.' V.P.S.?' Violent Passion Surrogate. Regularly once a month. We flood the whole system with adrenin. It's the complete physiological equivalent of fear and rage. All the tonic effects of murdering Desdemona and being murdered by Othello, without any of the inconvenience.' But I like the inconveniences.' We don't,' said the Controller. 'We prefer to do things comfortably.' But I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want sin.' In fact,' said Mustapha Mond, 'you're claiming the right to be unhappy. Not to mention the right to grow old and ugly and impotent; the right to have ######## and cancer, the right to have too little to eat; the right to be lousy; the right to live in constant apprehension of what may happen tomorrow; the right to catch typhoid; the right to be tortured by unspeakable pains of every kind.' There was a long silence. I claim them all,' said the Savage at last. Mustapha Mond shrugged his shoulders. 'You're welcome,' he said.”
