So You Think You Can Dance: Season 8, Episode 20 :: Top 6

Aug 04, 2011

The Top 6 dancers fight for a spot in the finale on So You Think You Can Dance (Season 8, Episode 20), which aired on August 3, 2011.

Actress Christina Applegate and choreographer Lil C joined the judges panel this week, as each of the Top 6 dancers teamed up with an all-star as well as a fellow contestant.

All-Star Performances

Melanie stepped out of her comfort zone for her first routine - hip hop with all-star Twitch. Once again, the judges noted that Melanie can pull off any and every dance style.

Sasha and all-star Kent performed an “intoxicating” contemporary piece, according to Mary Murphy. Sasha communicates and shows her emotions through dance, which breathes life into every piece she performs.

Marko and all-star Janette left Nigel a little cold with their paso doble number. The judges seemed to have mixed opinions about the piece.

Tadd and all-star Ellenore performed a Sonya Tayeh jazz routine that had them swinging from a chandelier. It wasn’t Sonya’s best piece, but Tadd did well with what he was given.

According to Mary, Ricky and all-star Jaimie’s contemporary routine was beautiful and freeflowing. Although the judges had a few critiques, they thought Ricky would be safe this week.

Caitlynn and all-star Pasha revved up the sexiness with their ballroom routine. Christina was surprised by how well Caitlynn performed.

Contestant Duets

Sasha and Ricky teamed up for a disappointing “waacking” routine. Mary couldn’t help but compare them to Princess Lockeroo, who introduced this style during her audition earlier in the season. This routine didn’t quite measure up.

Melanie and Tadd had Black Swan moment with their broadway routine about a choreographer and his lead dancer. Nigel called Melanie one of the best dancers they’ve ever had on the show. Unfortunately, Tadd’s performance, though well done, was shadowed by Melanie’s.

Finally, Caitlynn and Marko had the judges on their feet with their contemporary routine about an aggressive, controlling man and his spouse. Mary called this Caitlynn’s best piece ever, while Christina was wowed by Marko, calling him a beast (which, in this competition, is a huge compliment).

On Thursday, two dancers will be eliminated and the Top 4 will move onto the finale of So You Think You Can Dance.
