Fall TV Preview: Ringer

Aug 15, 2011

Sarah Michelle Gellar is back in The CW’s new series Ringer. Find out more about her complicated character and shocking plot in Kidzworld’s fall TV preview.

Running Away

Sarah Michelle Gellar fans have been missing out since Buffy the Vampire Slayer went off air. To our delight, Sarah is back in The CW’s new show Ringer, which starts this fall. Ringer throws Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character Bridget Cafferty right in the middle of a mob murder. After witnessing the event, Bridget goes on the run to keep herself safe. She finds comfort in her identical twin Siobhan, who lives in NYC. The two sisters go on a boat trip where Siobhan mysteriously goes overboard. With few options remaining, Bridget takes over her sister’s life and identity, pretending to be married to her wealthy businessman husband. But, Bridget soon discovers that her sister’s life isn’t so glamorous – or safe – after all. The show is already receiving praise from critics, who reference its film noir sexy quality and witty writing. The lavish New York City setting doesn’t hurt either.

Starring…

Sarah Michelle Gellar headlines Ringer, starring as both Bridget Cafferty and her twin sister Siobhan. Bridget and Siobhan are estranged twins living two different lives. Siobhan enjoys a rich, Upper East Side lifestyle while Bridget has many troubles, including drug and alcohol abuse. Bridget flees her old lifestyle, running from the mob, an FBI agent and her AA sponsor. This is Sarah Michelle Gellar’s largest TV role since playing Buffy.

Ioan Gruffudd plays Andrew, Bridget’s “new” husband after she takes over her sister’s life. As far as we can tell, Andrew has no idea that Bridget isn’t his real wife, although he does wonder about her weird behaviors. Will Bridget fall for Andrew, or will there be another love interest in the series? Ioan Gruffudd is a Welsh actor who has appeared in Titanic, King Arthur and Horrible Bosses.

Tara Summers and Kristoffer Polaha star as Gemma and Henry Gallagher, Siobhan’s married best friends. When Bridget takes over Siobhan’s life, she must learn to navigate her way around these friendships. Things get tricky when she discovers Siobhan was having an affair with Henry. Tara Summers was previously on Grey’s Anatomy spinoff Private Practice and Kristoffer Polaha is famous for his role as Nate on Life Unexpected
