SpongeBob’s Surf & Skate Roadtrip: DS Game Review
Surf and skate bikini bottom-style in SpongeBob’s Surf & Skate Roadtrip for Nintendo DS. Read Kidzworld’s review for all the details!
Hit the sand and surf with SpongeBob and his pal Patrick for some super boarding escapades. Take control of SpongeBob or Patrick as they ride skateboards and surfboards in the never-before-seen world of Shell Shore Beach. Enjoy the laid back lifestyle of their boarding vacation!
The game begins with a surf tutorial. This will help you master the basic moves before moving on to the surf levels. You can choose which board you want to use in each level, as different boards will have different qualities to them. Some challenges will require tweaking your board’s stats by equipping different accessories.
In all levels, speed will play a role and is a major component that will allow you to perform tricks or aerials. Your speed is measured by the Awesome Meter, which is like a speedometer. Speed up and you’ll see the letters begin to fill.
In each level you must score a certain amount of points, but it is always better to score as many points as possible. You can score points by performing tricks and aerials. Performing basic moves will help you speed up and perform even wilder combinations. The wave will break behind you, so you need to make sure you stay ahead of it so you don’t wipe out. You can collect gold stars along the way to earn bonuses.
Once you complete the surf levels you will move on to the skateboarding, which is pretty similar and easy to get the hang of once you’ve become a pro at surfing. The game has fun graphics and does a good job of bringing in your favorite SpongeBob SquarePants characters. The controls are easy to use and can be mastered by players of all skill levels. Overall, a great game!
