Lourdes Leon is best known as the celebrity offspring of superstar Madonna, but there’s more to this talented teen than just having a pop star parent. Oh Lourdes!
Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon, or Lola to her family and friends, was born in Los Angeles on October 14, 1996. Her father, Cuban personal trainer Carlos Leon, met Madonna when he worked as her personal trainer, but the one-on-one time turned into something more and soon they had daughter Lourdes. Although they did not stay together long, Lourdes is close with her father.
English Rose
When Madonna met and fell in love with English director Guy Ritchie, she and Lourdes packed their bags and moved to London. Lourdes didn’t just gain a new country, she also got a new sibling, brother Rocco! Despite living in jolly ol’ England, Madonna decided to enroll her children in a French language school in London to reflect their international heritage and lifestyle.
Even though she was small, Lourdes started participating in charity events with her mother, and when Madonna published the children’s story The English Roses (partly based on her daughter), Lourdes traveled to schools with her mother where she would hold public readings. Lourdes started making small appearances with her mother on TV shows – like as a flower girl in Madonna’s 2003 MTV Awards performance! Madonna adopted a Malawian boy named David to add to her family and later on, another little Malawian girl as well named Mercy!
Material Girl
Mostly happy to perform in her mother’s shadow, Lourdes started attracting attention of her own when she appeared in two Madonna music videos for the release of her best-of double album Celebration dressed as vintage Madonna. She also busted some moves that showed that dance is in her DNA!
Also noted for her great style, Lourdes and her mother launched their own clothing and beauty line, Material Girl. Teen Rocker/actress Taylor Momsen was the first face of Material Girl, with pop starlet and fellow celebrity kid Kelly Osborne next. Lourdes is also features singing background vocals on her mom’s latest album that is yet to drop, MDNA.

Did You Know...
Lourdes was named after a place in the south of France, a Christian pilgrimage site that Madonna’s mother, a devout Catholic (who passed away when she was young) had always hoped to travel to. The name also has Latin roots that speak to her Cuban heritage.
