Hey t bone,
I can't guarantee that you'll be shooting threes like A.I. or Kobe, but here are a few tips that should help:

  • Power Up Your Legs - Shoot a three-point shot just like a regular shot except bend your knees more to get more power behind your shot. The further you are from the basket, the more you'll need to bend your knees.
  • Square Up - After you get the ball, turn your body so that it's in line with the basket. Make sure your feet, knees, hips, shoulders and head are all in line and facing the basket. If you're leaning one direction or the other while shooting a three-point shot, chances are, you're not going to make the shot.
  • Stengthen Your Triceps - The triceps are the muscles on the back of your upper arm and are the ones you use when extending your arms on a shot. Ask your P.E. teacher or coach to give you some exercises to build up your triceps and you'll find it's easier to shoot those three point bombs.
  • Practice With a Friend - Having a friend to practice threes with will help your shot big time. You'll be able to get more shots off (since you'll have someone to rebound for you,) and you'll also have someone to look at your form to see that you're shooting correctly.
