EA's E3 2018 Press Conference Recap

Jun 10, 2018

By: Max Cannon

EA is in a position that they've been trapped in for years now. Gamers are hesitant to trust the big-name publisher after the Star Wars Battlefront 2 debacle and EA is known for putting out pretty lackluster press conferences during E3, who could forget the absolute boredom the audience suffered when EA brought out the beloved soccer player Pele to talk about his sport during a video gaming press event? Read on to see what is revealed at EA Play to start of E3 2018!

Battlefield V Multiplayer

Battlefield V, the first-person shooter developed by DICE, was revealed a few weeks ago in a live event and EA Play started off with a demonstration of the game's multiplayer which brings players back to World War 2. The "War Stories," a collection of short stories following specific soldiers, makes a return from Battlefield 1 and we should see more during Xbox's show. The big announcement is the game's upcoming Battle Royale mode which will get more information later on this year.

EA Announces New Streaming Initiative

Origin Access Premier gives you access to a big collection of games from EA's catalog for PC when it launches later this summer. It seemed a little confusing and this seems to be a streaming service similar to PlayStation Now, however, it could be a download service which is closer to Xbox Game Pass. We'll pay attention to whatever info they give out.

Respawn's Next Star Wars Game

Vince Zampella, the lead of Respawn Entertainment, gave some honest news about their upcoming Star Wars game Jedi Fallen Order which takes place between Episode 3 and 4. Not much more information is coming aside from this, but the game will launch during 2019's holiday season.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Adds New Content

After an expected apology for the state of Battlefront 2's launch, a developer from DICE came out to announce that Battlefront 2 will get free content later this year that returns players to the Clone War and will include General Grievous, Obi-Wan, and Anakin Skywalker as playable characters.

Unravel Two

Leaked by an ESRB listing just minutes before the conference, Unravel Two brings back the adorable character Yarny alongside a friend and co-op partner., don't worry single-player gamers because you can play alone. A sizeable demo showed how the game plans to focus on faster segments and setpieces, which were demoed live on the EA stage. The best part is that the game is out right now!

Sea of Solitude Focuses on Loneliness

Part of the EA Originals initiative, a plan to give a platform to indie developers under the EA umbrella, Sea of Solitude focuses on a girl named Kate and the search for her humanity. The game has an impressive art-style and setting that puts Kate in a flooded city. The game launches in 2019 and got a new trailer that you can check out below.

A Deeper Look at BioWare's Anthem

Anthem gets a sort of developer diary that shows how BioWare seems to be perusing a Destiny-type game. Though the game is an open-world adventure that shares a unified world, the game is supposed to have a large focus on personal stories and offer up gameplay to cater to single-player gamers. Players will control characters called Freelancers, which attack in Iron Man-like suits called Javelins. These Javelins come in 4 different classes to suit different gameplay styles. February 22, 2019, is the current launch date for Anthem but, knowing this industry, that could change by the time we get there.

And that's the show, nothing too amazing to talk about here but there's still a high chance of some good stuff from the upcoming shows with Bethesda, Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo!
