The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement DVD Review

Dec 27, 2006

Five years ago, Mia Thermopolis left us as the bright, bumbling teen who was battling her frizzy 'do and adjusting to the news that she's a member of royalty. Now, Anne Hathaway is back and ready to take on her role as princess of Genovia.

Princess Diaries 2 - A Royal Story

Princeton-graduate Mia packs up her normal life as an average American girl and moves to Genovia to begin her grand life as a princess. She hasn't changed much since we last saw her in The Princess Diaries - she's still clumsy and awkward, but is much more self-assured now. Mia has a blast on the palace grounds as she explores her new home, settles into her amazing bedroom that comes complete with its own mall, and celebrates her 21st birthday! She's having a great time up until she learns she must become queen earlier than expected, that is. And that's not all. Genovian law states that in order for Mia to rule the land, she must get married within 30 days, or else lose the crown!

Princess Diaries 2 - Royal Romance

Princess Mia's life turns upside down as bachelors line up to marry her. However, she only has eyes for two of them: Andrew Jacoby (played by Callum Blue), a serious guy who lacks romance, and Nicholas Devereaux (played by Chris Pine), a charming hottie who seems to have something up his sleeve. Mia gets herself into comical situations as she tries to choose her best match, including getting stuck as she climbs out of her bedroom window, and falling into a water fountain at a posh garden party!

Princess Diaries 2 - Royal Laughs

As a princess, Mia must learn how to ride a horse side-saddle, be a skilled archer, and act graceful and elegant, which can sometimes be difficult for her since she's such a klutz! Great comedic performances are given by Mia's eager-to-please maids, Brigitte and Brigitta, and Lionel, an overly enthusiastic summer security intern. Also, Raven appears as Mia's partying friend, and even does a singing gig with Queen Clarisse.

Princess Diaries 2 - DVD Features

As if this movie's not great enough, when you get the DVD, you're going to get the chance to check out a whole lot more fun, Princess stuff. Check out bloopers and deleted scenes and listen to commentary from the director and Julie Andrews (she's the Queen). Find out more about the music in the flick by watching a behind-the-scenes feature, hosted by the one and only, Raven. Also watch Kelly Clarkson's video for the smash-hit, Breakaway!

Princess Diaries 2 - Bottom Line

The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement is an entertaining romantic comedy about the amusing escapades of a princess who's just trying to maintain a normal existence. Anne Hathaway is sweetly charming as the pretty, but gawky princess, and Julie Andrews gives a fantastic performance as the wise Queen Clarisse. Check out Princess Diaries 2 with your family and friends cuz it's sure to be a riot!
