2001 Blockbuster Entertainment Awards

Aug 20, 2020

That sexy Latin heart throb Ricky Martin opened the show with a bang! He started singing Loaded from outside the building and headed inside while performing down the aisle to the main stage. He was the perfect artist to start the show. Did anyone notice Ricky shakin' his buns in those little pants?

Just as I had suspected, *NSYNC won Favorite CD for No Strings Attached against Britney's Oops!... I Did It Again, Creed's Human Clay, Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP and Santana's Supernatural (Ya Santana's STILL getting nominated.) Although Creed didn't win this award they performed their hit Higher after a crazy introduction from Tom Green that involved throwing a bunch of fruits and veggies into the audience. The crowd was pumped and the vocals sounded great.

Christina Aguilera looked very scary last night. What is she doing to herself? Why is she going for the trash look? Anyway, despite her huge blonde Afro (wig) and her cut up velour red dress with fringes, the singer won Favorite Female Artist. Good thing it wasn't a fashion awards show. She beat out Britney, Madonna, Faith Hill and soul sister Toni Braxton.

Former 70s band and ex-singer of Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, electrified the audience with her new song, Fall From Grace, with a little help from her bud Sheryl Crow. Ricky took the stage again when he won Favorite Male Artist Pop and dedicated his award to the souls out there helping the less fortunate. What a good guy.

Joe got the hip-hop funk groove happening with his hit Stutter and the audience loved it. He sounded great and was the only hip-hop performance of the evening. I liked it when they let us get a sneak peak backstage to chat with the winners. One of the highlights of the evening for me was when *NSYNC presented an award with Cheri Oteri who flirted with JC, Chris and Justin at the podium. Despite Lance and Joey having to stay in Canada to film their movie, the rest of *NSYNC didn't miss a beat and were in full joking mode. My only complaint about the show was that it was only two hours and it seemed really rushed. There were a lot of awards that went out that would have been nice to see.
