There is an argument all the time about who is the Greatest… especially in Sports. Who is the Greatest Golfer… Tiger Woods? Who is the Greatest Tennis Player… Roger Federer? Who is the Quarterback… Peyton Manning? In Hockey, Sidney Crosby is getting very close to being named the Greatest, and he is only 22 Years Old.

PeeWee Perfection

Sidney has been under a close watch of Greatness ever since he was playing PeeWee Hockey in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. He was so good that he was better than most kids many years older than him. In fact, when he was 13 years old, his family sued the Nova Scotia Minor Hockey League when they wouldn’t let him play with the 17-18 year old division.

Young Champion

When Sidney was drafted to the NHL at the age of 18, there was a lot of hype for him to be the Greatest Player in Hockey. He was selected 1st Overall to play for the Pittsburg Penguins who had the worst record in the previous hockey season. He has now brought the Penguins to the Stanley Cup Finals twice and last year they won it against the Detroit Red Wings.

Ovechkin Rivalry

The reason why Sidney is still being questioned as the Greatest Player in hockey right now is because of another great player named Alexander Ovechkin. Alex is beating Sidney in all the individual statistic records. Every year, the two of them are always leading the NHL in points, but it seems that Alex always finishes a little bit higher than Sidney.

The Big Goal

Many Sport Analysts don’t believe that individual statistics are the main thing that shows a players Greatness, but the only thing that matters is who wins the game. Recently at the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada, Sidney showed the World that he could lead a Nation to a Gold Medal as he scored the Big Goal that beat the Americans in overtime in the Final Game. Alex has yet to win any major title in professional sports.

The Long Road Ahead

Sidney is still very young and he has a long road ahead of him to achieve the status of being the Greatest Player in Hockey. Unfortunately he will never be able to break any of the records Wayne Gretzky achieved because the game has changed so much. Nonetheless, Sydney has had a great start to his career and despite what critics say about him, he will always be known as one of the Greatest Players to ever play Hockey.
