Carissa Moore - One of a Kind
Carissa Moore's athletic talents were apparent at a young age. Her father said she had incredible
"balance and movement" as a two-year old and by the time she was six, Carissa started competing in surfing competitions around Hawaii. Just a year later, she scored a sponsorship by legendary surfing clothing company,
Roxy. Her breakout year happened when she was 10 - Carissa won several events that featured the best surfers in
Hawaii in the 17 and under category. Surfer Magazine named Carissa
Breakthrough Performer of the Year in 2004. In the same year, she won the Billabong Junior Pro Competition.
Carissa Moore - The Future
To date, Carissa has won an
astonishing nine National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) titles. The majority of competitions she wins, she's usually the youngest competitor in the field. In the 2007
Roxy Pro Competition in Australia, she was the
youngest ever finalist (male or female) and she has surfed in events all over the
world. In March 2007, Carissa was the second ranked woman
surfer in the world and she also began competing against men as well as women. At just 14, many feel Carissa's
best years are still ahead of her so keep your eye on this rising star!
