Unfortunately, yes, it seems that we are often misjudged by others, taking my case for an example. My friends have often overestimated me, thus my social status in reality has always been, and may remain, low. I'm often viewed by many as an 'individual' who does not want to gain friends (for usually, as depicted in movies, over intellectual kids or, the well-known informal word to describe them, geniuses, usually don't have that much friends beside them, being the independent people they are), though I would appreciate a friendly presence in my life every once in a while. Yet still, I am deemed by even my closest friends--who have actually not proven to be at all, unfriendly. Or a harsh-speaker, judgemental even. I still find it upsetting, sometimes. But I'd love to surround myself with those who share the same perspective, or intellectual kids!
