Before popping this audio book into my tape deck I have to admit I wasn't too psyched about the title and wasn't really sure what to expect. Would listening to this story put me to sleep every night? Happily, the answer was no. Within a few minutes of listening I was intrigued by the story of the traveling vintage jeans.
Ann Brashares' story of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is much more than a story about a fabulous pair of blue jeans. Yes, they are kind of magical (cuz they seem to magically make anyone who wears them look irresistible) but the story is about a group of four best buds (Lena, Tibby, Bridget and Carmen) who spend their first summer apart from each other. The four friends vow to share the pants, so they mail them to each other along with notes about the adventures they have while wearing the jeans.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is also about growing up. Even though the four girls are apart and miss each other dearly, being apart takes each of them on their own adventures of love, friendship,
I was fascinated with all four characters in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and wanted to know how each of their paths would unravel. I think this is a great story for teen girls but I know that guys wouldn't dig it cuz they'd consider it a "chick book." The reader, Angela Goethals, does a great job of expressing the emotions of the different characters and bringing the story to life. My only gripe is that it could be a little shorter - it's six hours and 35 minutes long.
Audio books are a great way to pass the time on a road trip and sometimes it's cool to have someone read to you. So pick up an audio book and if you want a GREAT story to listen to - pick up The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. 'Course you could always do the old-fashioned thing and buy the paperback!
