Father's Day Craft Ideas

Jun 01, 2021

So, Father's Day is approaching fast and you're a little short on cash? No problem - these cheap, easy and creative crafts will have your pa all misty-eyed (or at least he might crack a smile). Check them out! This year Father's Day is June 20th, 2021!

Picture Perfect Frame

Nothing says Happy Father's Day like a picture of you and Dad in a frame you made yourself.

What You Need:

  • One unfinished wooden frame with a reasonably wide border.
  • White glue or a glue gun (ask Mom for help if you're using a glue gun - they're hot!).
  • Various nuts, bolts and other pieces of hardware.
  • Spray paint (silver looks nice).
  • A picture of you and your dad that'll fit nicely in the frame.

Instructions:

Take the glass out of the frame. Glue the nuts, bolts and other hardware to the frame. Use your own artistic judgment to decide where they should go. Once the glue is dry, spray the whole frame with paint in a well ventilated area that you have protected with newspaper (check with Mom first). Let the paint dry and insert the glass and the photo of you and your dad. Voila, you're set! Don't forget you can use this technique with stuff other than hardware. If your dad's a golf fanatic, use golf tees instead!

Personalized Boxers

What do dads love more than wacky boxer shorts? Nothing!

What You Need:

  • One pair of white boxer shorts in your dad's size (ask Mom).
  • Various colors of fabric paint (stay away from sparkles and pink unless your dad happens to really like sparkles and pink).

Instructions:

Wear old clothes while you're working on this project so you don't accidentally "decorate" your new Sean Jean sweatshirt. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the fabric paint and use it to draw funny pictures and slogans ("World's Best Dad" is always a good one) on the boxers. Let them dry and you're set.

Do-It-Yourself Mug

If your dad can't get through the morning without a cup of joe, this is the gift for him.

What You Need:

  • One plain white mug.
  • Various colors of ceramic paint (available in craft stores).
  • Paint brushes.

Instructions:

Decorate the mug using the ceramic paint. Then follow the manufacturer's directions to set the paint. Normally you have to bake the mug in the oven, but the paint should have specific directions on the packaging.
