Xbox, 1080 Snowboarding, SimsVille and Jedi Knights
Big news today as the Xbox announces it'll be late. How late? Find out. Also it might be the end of 1080 Snowboarding and it IS the end of SimsVille. All that and a new Jedi Knight, right here.
It's not great news but it's big news. Microsoft announced that the big, bad Xbox is behind schedule. Rather than hitting stores on November 8, 2001 - it'll be out on the 15th. It's still ahead of the Gamecube, but just barely. Big Bill also announced that there's a new factory churning out Xboxes by the dozen in Guadalajara, Mexico. They'll have a ton for the big launch and 100,000 per week after that. Whoa... that's a whole lotta gaming machines.
Snowboarding fans are in for some bad news. The 1080 Snowboarding series is either quitting the slopes or making some massive changes. Rumors are that Nintendo is scrapping the series. There are other reports that they're not trashing it, just rebuilding it. Either way, there's gonna be no snow for the Nintendo for a while.
Sims fans are losing out on some gaming goodness too. The upcoming game - SimsVille just packed it in. After two years of work, and only a couple of months shy of release, the game has been trashed. The brainiacs at Maxis (the company that makes the Sims games) decided that the game wasn't good enough. It sucks the game's been canned, but it beats them trying to sell us a stinker.
Today's news isn't all doom and gloom, unless you're a stormtrooper. Jedi Outcast: Jedi Knight II, from Lucasarts, is looking mighty cool. You step into the shoes of Kyle Katarn and start after the end of Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II. There's no news on the plot yet but you can count on lightsaber-swinging, Jedi action in wild locations against crazy villains.
