Defend Your Castle :: WiiWare Game Review
Defend your castle from an army of angry stick figures by flinging them around in this wicked WiiWare game. Here’s Gary’s game review.
If you haven't managed to squeeze enough awesome out of your Nintendo Wii yet, you need to check out the WiiWare channel and all the wicked games you can download from it. The latest, Defend Your Castle, puts you in charge of a medieval castle - just as a horde of barbarians storm the gate! Put down your homework, it's time to man the ramparts with your friends. Here's the scoop on the game with Gary's Defend Your Castle game review.
Barbarian Horde! This game starts out nice and simple - you have a castle on one side of the screen and barbarian stickmen come rushing at it from the other. If they get to it, they start kicking down the walls and your "Helth" bar drops. Zero health = smashed castle. To fend them off, you grab them with the Wiimote and fling 'em around. They land with a nice messy splurtch... noise and score you points you can use to upgrade your castle between levels. Tougher walls, archers, wizards and explosives power-up your castle, but the invaders get battering rams, explosives and even giants! How long can you keep your castle from getting smashed?
Medieval MayhemThis game looks primitive, but it has fun with it! The invaders are stickmen, the explosives are caps and you can wipe out invaders with an eraser attack. Very wacky! It's also a lot of fun listening to the invaders make funny noises as you toss 'em around. Upgrading your castle also gives you some awesome options that can really help flatten the barbarians if you have mad skills. The coolest part is that up to four players can join the chaos, jumping in anytime, to help you fling barbarians around. And, the highest scorer gets to be king for the next level!
Splurtch...There are a few flaws with this retro game. The first is that you only score half-points when you're playing with friends and that's pretty lame! The biggest problem though is that you run out of upgrades really fast. After just a couple of hours, you'll have all the towers and upgrades. Then it's just a question of how long you can stay alive.
Bashing BarbariansDefend Your Castle is a fun little game. It's great for playing with friends, or for a quick twitch-fest while you're killing a few minutes. It runs out of new stuff fairly fast, but for 500 Wii points (just $5) you can download a game that's a lot of fun!
