Active Life: Outdoor Challenge :: Wii Game Review

The new Active Life: Outdoor Challenge game for Wii brings the outdoors indoors so you can pry your butt off the couch and have some fun. It comes with a bunch of different ways for you to get moving, including a new game pad! From kayaking to mountain climbing, mole-stomping and more, this game is loaded. Gary lost a few pounds playing it and here's his game review!

Get Up and Get Moving!

You start this game by plugging in the big game mat and picking a Mii for a trip to Outdoor Island. As you play, your Mii runs around on-screen through nearly 20 mini-games, each one challenging you to run, jump and more. There are adventure modes, difficulty settings, a fitness training mode and two-player modes so you can challenge, or play with, a friend.

The Great Outdoors!

Ever play any dance pad games? This one has 'em beat! It has a great mix of game modes, each one challenging you to use the game mat in different ways and a bunch of them including the Wiimote. With the click of a button you'll go from your couch to paddling a kayak, pulling stunts as you slide down a grassy hill and more! It's a fun way to get some winter exercise. And, dragging a friend over lets you both get in on the action.

Outdoor Challenge? Try Indoor Challenge

The biggest problem with this game is that, in the middle of the running, jumping and arm-waving, the Wiimote gets confused. Unless you're really careful and slow, the motion-sensing falls apart. There are some two-player modes where you're sharing the game mat too so watch that you don't thump your friend as you're jumping around!

The Finish Line

This game is a lot of fun. It's packed with ways to get moving and use the game mat to play. A few spots run into control problems, but most of the games are sweet and it's a great way to take a trip outdoors when the weather sucks or if you're stuck at home.

Thumbs Up:

  • Lots of fun mini-games.
  • Game mat with lots of buttons for a variety of games!
  • Challenge, or team up with, a friend in two-player mode.
  • You can have some outdoor fun without getting eaten by a bear.

  • Thumbs Down:

  • The Wiimote controls are sloppy. They could use a Wii MotionPlus.
  • Multiplayer = shared game mat = punching your friends in the face.

  • Game Rating:

    Available for: Wii.
