Popcorn Ball

Mar 04, 2009

One tiny town in America is trying to break a big – and yummy – world record.

Hundreds of people in Sac City, Iowa, spent a whole weekend trying to make the biggest-ever ball of popcorn.

The town has held the world record for the biggest popcorn ball twice before, in 1995 and 2004.

Popcorn Ball Recipe

These sweet, crunchy balls of popcorn are easy to make.

You’ll need:

  • 3/4 cup corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 2 teaspoons cold water
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup marshmallows
  • 5 quarts plain popped popcorn

First, combine the corn syrup, margarine, water, sugar and marshmallows in a saucepan over medium heat and stir until the mixture comes to a boil.

Second, combine the hot mixture with the popcorn, making sure that you coat each and every kernel.

Third, grease your hands with some vegetable oil and quickly shape the coated popcorn into balls before it cools.

Finally, wrap the balls with plastic wrap and store them at room temperature.
