The Bachelorette 5 :: Episode 9 Recap

This week on The Bachelorette, Jillian and the three remaining bachelors travel from Spain to Hawaii. After three overnight dates, Jillian makes the most shocking decision of the season.

Kiptyn’s Date

Things are heating up with the adventurous, down-to-earth Kiptyn. Jillian takes him to a rope-made obstacle course built high up in the air. Jillian reveals her vulnerable side as Kiptyn coaches her through a nerve-racking stunt. At dinner, the smitten Jillian eagerly accepts the fantasy suite key.

Reid’s Date

Jillian and Reid soar to new heights, chartering a helicopter over the beautiful island of Maui. But even with the breathtaking scenery, they can’t keep their eyes off each other. Later, Jillian takes Reid to a romantic dinner on the beach. She tries once again to get Reid to verbalize his feelings for her. But he still seems more comfortable revealing his feelings to the camera than to Jillian. But despite being a closed book, Reid still wins an overnight date with Jillian.

Ed’s Date

As Ed and Jillian set sail on a private boat, Ed throws all his emotions on the table. He surprises Jillian by flying his parents out to Maui so they can get acquainted, eliminating his one disadvantage in the competition. They enjoy dinner with his folks, and later head to the fantasy suite. But their day in the sun leaves them hot, sunburnt and exhausted, and Jillian starts to question whether the passion is truly there.

The Shocking Rose Ceremony

Before the elimination, Jillian pulls Ed aside to address her concerns about their overnight date. Ed assures her that everything he’d told her—including that he loves her—was sincere. In the end, Jillian shocked viewers by sending home the one guy that made her laugh and gave her “that feeling”—Reid.
